Hi there! Even though it might still feel like fall where you are, it's always a good idea to plan ahead and think about the upcoming season: winter. Where I live, our winters are pretty darn rigorous and downright cold, so having a jacket that keeps me warm is a must.
If you're in need of a new winter jacket this year, here is a little guide to help you along the way.
1. what do you already have?
If you're in need for a new winter jacket, you're probably either fed up with the old one or it doesn't fit anymore. Figure out why you do or don't like the old one so much, so you can start forming an idea of what you want in your head.
2. where and when are you going to wear it?
My winters are cold, but yours may not be. I go to school and have to walk a bit, but you might not have to. It's important to keep in mind how cold it's going to get, how often you're going to wear your jacket, and for what occasion you will wear your jacket. If you're going to school and you have to walk a bit, you might want to pick something that's not meant solely to keep you warm, but actually looks stylish. If you're not going to be outdoors very much, maybe a peacoat will suffice. Stuff like that. Don't forget to check how much cold it can withstand if that information is available. You don't want a jacket that looks warm, but isn't when you need it to be.
Also, if you know you're going to be wearing it a LOT, think of it as an investment. At the same time, be aware of your budget and make it reasonable.
3. know your body's proportions
Understanding your body and your body type is key to making anything look good. Because winter jackets can get really bulky and big, you don't want to pick something that will overwhelm your figure. Flaunt you have and try to trick people playing up your body type and your proportions to, say, elongate your legs, make yourself look taller, leaner, etc.
4. check out your accessories and boots
When buying your new winter jacket, you probably wouldn't want to invest in a whole new accessories and shoe closet, as well, because let's face it - not many of us have the money for that. See what you already have and make sure to find a jacket that matches that style and colour palette.
5. window shop online beforehand
Browse online at stores you know have good jacket before going into any stores to get an idea of what you want. Save photos of your favourites (on your computer or in your mind, whichever) for later!
6. try some on in stores
Now is the time to try some of these suckers on! Go to your local mall or outlet stores and just try some on. Try on a few that you might not think you'd like or would fit you well, but try them on anyway. You never know when you're going to come across something you'll adore.
7. go back online to finalise your order
If you didn't achieve success in stores, like if there wasn't a certain colour you wanted or something, make an order online. Now that you know what you want, just go for it if it's in your budget and you truly love it. Don't forget to check their shipping and return policy before placing an order just in case you're not happy with what you got.
