5 Ways to Beat the Sunday Terrors

fuck in the taxi

Hi there! This post was inspired by one that I saw on the Man Repeller the other day about the Sunday Terrors. For me, the Sunday Terrors is simply just feeling overwhelmed on a Sunday, procrastinating, and simply not being productive. Amelia Diamond's definition seems to have alcohol consumption mixed it with that, but we can just leave that part out.

Because I do get the Terrors myself about once every few weeks, I've learned my way around it and some tips here and there that have helped. Here are a few that I've found really helpful!

1. Make a to-do list the night before or early the next morning.

To-do lists pretty much save my life every single day over and over again. Everyday whenever I have free time at school, like during a class when I'm done my work or whatever, I'll jot down a schedule of what I have to do when I get home and from when to when. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to do everything. If you try to fit an hour-long job into half an hour, it's probably not going to work and will just throw you off balance.

2. Go to bed early/earlier.

Nothing sucks more than waking up on a Sunday morning at 11 am, knowing that you spent pretty much half your day asleep. I personally love getting up early in the morning and getting lots of things done, especially before noon, so going to bed early will definitely help.

3. Eat a good breakfast.

Starting your day off right is extremely important, so fuel your body with good nutrients to get your day going. I suggest oatmeal. :)

4. Check things off.

Don't just make a to-do list and completely ignore it the next day. Bring it around with you to keep track of your progress by checking things off. It really helps to motivate you to keep going productively with your day. It's also great to keep handy so you can keep in mind how much time you've assigned for each task so you can get them done in a timely fashion.

5. Don't beat yourself up.

If you couldn't get all the things you had to get done by the end of the weekend, don't be so hard on yourself about it. Just relax, breathe, and do some yoga or something to clear your mind. Put the past in the past and think of the coming Monday as a fresh start. During the week, try to plan your time accordingly and get things done so you don't cram it all into the weekend.

Do you get the Sunday Terrors? Does it happen often? What do you usually do to overcome it? Leave your comments below!

Thank you so much for reading!

  1. So that DOES have a name, called Sunday Terror! I thought it's just me being too nervous.( I actually not only have Sunday Terror, but pretty much Everyday Terror though...) I used to make to-do lists before, but I hardly ever finished them all, partly because I squeezed too many things in, and also I kept distracting myself. I couldn't concentrate because school work was (and still is) boring and really brain-consuming. How do you deal with that? I'd really like to know. :)
Your ways to beat those Terrors seem quite useful and very encouraging, I'll definitely try them! :D

    1. I do that, too, you know, cramming too many things on one list. But the key is to have two lists, or have a way of dividing one list into things you have to, have to, HAVE to get done, and the things that are optional. Also, if you're times, just be sure to give yourself a bit of leeway!

  2. Uh, I don't think school work is really "brain-consuming", that sounds REALLY creepy...but hope you get what I mean, (is it like, mind-consuming? )Now I'm sure it's NOT called brain-consuming...gosh, Halloween's already over!
