Introduction to: Bedroom Makeover Series

Hi there! First of all... happy Valentine's Day! I hope that you're all going to spending the day with a loved one pigging out on chocolate and just having a blast. Now onto the post!

I been getting the itch to redecorate my room lately, especially after watching Elle Fowler’s videos and reading her posts all about it. I’ve wanted to do this since about two years ago, but never got around to it because of how expensive it is and how my parents weren’t cool with the idea, even if I was the one paying. Also, I just wanted to put it out there that I'm incredibly grateful for the room that I do have, but I'd like to make it my own a bit more by doing DIY projects and making small purchases as opposed to being a brat and asking my parents for a whole new room.

But after following Elle’s series, I realised that yes, she did buy a lot of things because she’s pretty well off, but she also made some small changes or has things laid out and organised in a smart and effective way that uses the space to her advantage. It inspired me so much that I figured that I’d start my own little series here as well because everyone’s journey will be different, so maybe I’ll be able to inspire one person out there to revamp their room a bit. Keep reading for a sneak peek of the huge project!

First off, my bedroom is very pink and girly. We painted it when I was six years old and it has been this way since and the only thing that has changed was the amount of Taylor Swift posters on my walls. Because my walls are just so… in your face, I guess you could say, I’m thinking of adding some artwork to the walls to cover it up a bit and tone it down. I have lots of ideas for paintings and things I could do like put up a big painting above my bed that will cover about 75% of that space and also on the side of my bed.

As for my bed, I’m thinking of using making some pillows/pillowcases that will bring the seemingly random throw pillows on my bed together. I’d also really like to find a way to really organise my nightstand which is always a mess and figure out a nice way to organise things so I actually want to keep it organised.

I’m thinking of adding lots of photos and possibly shots of runways around my mirror to make that area look a bit more alive and attractive.

My bookshelf needs quite a bit of work, as well, like everything else. I organised the books on the second shelf by colour and it certainly brightens it up, but it just gets so messy so easily and I really need to figure out how to use my bookshelf as a place to store books as well as a display case-type thing.

As happy as I am to have a jewellery organiser, it does look a bit plain and darkens the whole dresser, so I’m toying around with a few ideas to brighten it up. There’s also a mirror that has been in my closet for two years now that I still have to put up that I got from IKEA, so we’ll see how that works out.

I actually cleaned my desk a bit earlier this week, but of course, there’s a big difference between cleaning something and organising it, which I really need to do. I just really dislike the layout of it all and the space doesn’t motivate me to get to work as much as it should. You can maybe tell that I’ve started to put things in Mason jars (I got a 12-pack at Walmart last weekend and have been enjoying putting little trinkets in them) to organise them better, but there’s still a long way to go.

That’s about it! There will be a little mini project-type thing up on the blog biweekly or so (unless I just can’t wait) and I’m so stoked to get this huge project going. The whole purpose is to do it without breaking the bank, so if you’re getting bored with your room, come along for the ride!

Which area of my room are you most excited to see get made over? Have you ever done a huge makeover of your room or are you planning on it? What kind of space inspires you? Leave your comments below!

Thank you so much for reading!

  1. Well, it's probably because I have not been staring at the walls for eight years, but I think your room is gorgeous! I can't wait to see how you change your room though :)
